Traineeships at The Place are a great way to get hands on work experience and learn valuable skills that can be used for future employment. Join us on a journey of growth and professional development.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A PROFESSIONAL DANCER TO WORK AT THE PLACE!

Whether you're interested in production and marketing, youth and adult dance class administration, human resources, or higher education administration, The Place has traineeships across our organisation to suit people with a range of different goals, abilities, and career plans.

WHAT ARE TRAINEESHIPS AT THE PLACE?

Traineeships at The Place are opportunities to work alongside our experts staff and learn from their experience and wisdom though on the job learning. Trainees will also have the opportunity to request specific training courses related to this work to further enhance their development throughout their traineeship.

Our Trainees work alongside our permanent staff members, working closely with their line manager to hone their skills and develop their experience. The aim of our traineeship is to help foster a budding career in the arts sector for those wishing to go into areas other than performance.

Through Continuing Professional Development our Trainees leave The Place with the skills and experiences needed to succeed in the job market, ready to begin a fruitful career in the arts sector and even beyond.

CREATIVE ACCESS

We have partnered with our friends at Creative Access to offer our traineeships, allowing our trainees to benefit not only from the expertise of staff at The Place, but also Creative Access' full support programme.

With Creative Access, our traineeships are ring-fenced as Positive Action schemes for those from communities under-represented in the creative industries.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are eager to provide people opportunities to get vital, on the job experience, but due to the appeal of traineeships it is important that you have a high-quality CV and cover letter and when making your application. Some things to consider include:

  • Have an interest and understanding of The Place.
  • Show that you are enthusiastic about the role you for which you are applying.
  • Demonstrate that you have the necessary skills by reading the advert for open traineeships carefully and make reference to these skills in your application.

TYPES OF TRAINEESHIP AT THE PLACE

    PRODUCING & MARKETING TRAINEES

    Our Producing & Marketing Trainees are perfect for any budding producers and/or marketeers. Assisting our Artist Development team, these trainees work alongside artists working with The Place, helping to organise equipment the artists might need and research opportunities for artists supported by The Place.

    They will also learn to collate sales data from touring productions, update our tour packs (making sure the information remains up to date), undertake contract administration tasks and attend shows on tour and in The Place theatre.

    CLASSES & COURSES TRAINEES

    These trainees will work with our recreational Classes & Courses Programme. Trainees will build their confidence as they learn to provide a point of contact for all telephone, email, and in-person enquiries from customers relating to our Children and Youth Dance, and Adult Dance Programmes. 

    These trainees will also learn how to make class bookings, monitor the class information on our website and feedback any needed amendments, as well as learn the ins and outs of how a recreational dance programme is run.

    COMMUNICATIONS TRAINEES

    Our Communication Trainees work with our Communications (marketing) team to maintain and monitor our social media presence by scheduling posts on our social media accounts across all major platforms we use.

    These trainees will also learn how to produce performance programme notes (for all performances in the theatre), assist in the production and placement of advertising, as well as research, planning, development, and implementation of marketing, PR, and communications activity.

    HR ASSISTANT TRAINEES

    Working closely with our HR team, this traineeship will see you learning all about recruitment and onboarding processes, as well as key skills for HR and administrative professionals in an artistic environment.

    These trainees will learn to upload content to our careers site (including job descriptions and job adverts), organise interviews for shortlisted applicants, send out contracts, conduct right to work checks, facilitate DBS checks, maintain HR systems and records, and work on project-based tasks as we refine our processes.

    DANCE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE TRAINEES

    These trainees work within the busy school office of London Contemporary Dance School (LCDS). These trainees will be tasked with responding to student email enquires and providing information regarding admissions and course content.

    These trainees will learn to produce and maintain daily technique class registers for faculty members and assist with the coordination of student rehearsal space allocation. They will work closely with our school office team and learn key administrative skills in a renowned Arts Higher Education environment.

    CAT TRAINEES

    These trainees provide a first point of contact for incoming programme enquiries supporting the Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) Team. They will receive safeguarding training and learn to report any serious pastoral and/or safeguarding concerns to management or a safeguarding officer in line with The Place’s safeguarding policies and procedures. 

    Overall, this trainee will be given an overview of how a busy pre-vocational dance programme is run within a small, passionate team, learning administration and customer-facing skills.

  • FINANCE TRAINEES

    This traineeship allows individuals to work closely with our Finance team to build skills in expenditure and income management, cashflow, banking and financial data analysis.

    As a higher education provider and registered arts charity, our organisation has various different funding channels and expenditures and provides trainees a rich and complex financial environment to learn and enhance their skills to foster burgeoning careers in finance.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Our traineeship contracts will typically last for 12 months.

  • Applicants must 18 years old or above.

  • There is no maximum age limit, however these traineeships are aimed at those starting their career journeys, rather than those whose careers are more established.

  • We can only offer one traineeship in each area at a given time. Currently, this means that we have six trainees working with us at once.

    1. Traineeships give you access to specialised training, workshops and resources that can enhance your skills.
    2. With a traineeship at The Place, you will build valuable connections with professionals, mentors, and fellow trainees.
    3. Traineeships allow you to test different roles within your field to find the best fit for your skills and interests.
    4. A traineeship will also help you stand out to potential employers by having a strengthened CV.

  • Trainees will typically be contracted for 40 hours per week. This is inclusive of a one hour lunch break per day.

    Specific working hours will vary depending on the needs of the department in which a trainee works, as well as the needs of the trainee themself. Working hours will be agreed with a trainees line manager at the start of a contract.

  • Yes. Our trainees are paid a tax-free training bursary equivalent to the net amount earned by someone on the London Living Wage. This means for a 40 hour per week traineeship will be paid a bursary of £23,215 for a 12-month contract. This is paid in 12 monthly instalments.

  • Our trainees are hired through our partners at Creative Access and so all applications must be made through the Creative Access website. Current opportunities to apply will be posted on this page along with a link to the Creative Access application portal.
