ABOUT
The Place is home to a vibrant Classes & Courses Programme, running approximately 45 classes per week, with sessions available for all ages 2 to 60+. Classes run from Mondays through to Saturdays, with the majority of weekday classes taking place in the evening. Classes are accompanied by a live musician each week, using a range of instruments and techniques to generate inspiring sound to enhance the work of our teachers and participants alike.
In recent times, we have been unpicking our understanding of ‘contemporary’ dance, and as a result, broadening the range of dance forms we draw on to offer a class programme that reflects practices included under the umbrella term ‘contemporary’. Current teachers draw on Ballet, Bharatanatyam, Cunningham, House, Limon, Popping and Release, to name a few.
Classes for adult learners are available for those of any level of dance experience, from new dancers looking for introductory sessions, right up to our Level 3 classes for advanced dancers, with class focus being artist-led.
The Children and Youth Dance programme is recreational, whereby young people are grouped according to age rather than ability. The focus of the programme has shifted these past few years: dance ‘technique’, and all that encompasses, will be learnt, questioned, and curiously explored through creative tasks. Led by highly skilled teachers who draw on a range of dance practices, our children and young people are guided through movement explorations drawing on a variety of movement vocabulary, supporting us in reaching our mission: to power imagination through dance.
