LECTURER IN DANCE: UNIT LEADER (MA CREATIVE DANCE EDUCATION)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Deliver high-quality teaching and learning, as appropriate to unit plans and areas of expertise.
- Place the student at the centre, supporting learning through tutorials and academic guidance.
- Support student engagement, attendance and progression, raising concerns as appropriate.
- Take part in assessment panels and processes.
- Provide timely, clear and constructive feedback on student work.
- Maintain a professional level of subject expertise, engaging with current developments in dance education and pedagogy.
- Contribute to the delivery of teaching within the Education & Communities pathway on the BA (Hons) Contemporary Dance course.
- Support alignment between undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in creative dance education.
- Contribute to the development of pedagogical approaches across programmes.

- Act as Unit Leader, overseeing the delivery and implementation of assigned units.
- Liaise with Course Leader, faculty, guest lecturers and external partners to plan and deliver units.
- Ensure learning outcomes, teaching activities and assessment are aligned and clearly communicated.
- Support the preparation and delivery of placement-based learning where relevant to the unit.
- Ensure appropriate learning resources are in place, managing budgets where required.
- Coordinate assessment processes, including briefing students and moderating feedback.
- Complete unit evaluation and reporting processes.
- Facilitate student voice through engagement with student representatives.

- Undertake appropriate training (e.g. Mental Health First Aid, Safeguarding, Prevent).
- Work with colleagues to support students with disabilities or additional needs.
- Take responsibility for health and safety, conducting risk assessments as required.
- Support the maintenance of appropriate standards of student conduct.

- Contribute to recruitment and admissions activity, including teaching, interviews, and outreach events.
- Support the promotion of the programme and engagement with prospective students.

- Engage in continuing professional development to support teaching and practice.
- Contribute to external networks relevant to dance education and participatory practice.
- Support collaborative working across The Place (e.g. Creative Learning, Classes & Courses, Artist Development).
- Maintain appropriate IT proficiency for teaching, assessment and administration.

- Attend and actively participate in course, school and institutional meetings and committees as required.
- Undertake health and safety responsibilities appropriate to the role.
- Support and contribute to the School and The Place’s external profile.
- Work in line with Equity and Inclusion Principles and Widening Access strategies.
- Maintain professional standards in communication, attendance and administrative responsibilities.
- Fulfil any other duties as reasonably required by the Chief Academic Officer.

- Contribute to the wider research culture across the The Place through practice, publication, or knowledge exchange activity.
There is the opportunity to request research allocation, following successful probation and subject to institutional processes and priorities
Applications for research allocation will be prioritised based on:
- Successful PhD completion or evidence of a track record of producing high-quality scholarly and/or practice research outputs, with clear plans for continued output over the next two years.
- Experience of PhD supervision.
- A record of successful research funding. applications and/or well-developed plans to submit funding bids.
- Research expertise in practice research and/or organisational priority areas, including place-making, technology/AI, creative health, and producing.
- Contribute to the wider research culture across the The Place through practice, publication, or knowledge exchange activity.
