JOB OVERVIEW
The communications trainee will report to our Press & PR manager and work closely with our Communications team within a busy and exciting dance organisation to market our range of events and programmes. You will help maintain and monitor The Place's social media presence by scheduling posts on social media accounts across all major platforms they use.
You will also learn how to produce performance programme notes (for all performances in the theatre), assist in the production and placement of advertising, as well as research, planning, development, and implementation of marketing, PR, and communications activities.

TRAINING ALLOWANCE AND CONTRACT TERMS
TRAINING ALLOWANCE
The training allowance for this role is £23,938 per annum.
No training allowance changes are made until after successful completion of a probationary period.
CONTRACT TERMS
This is a 12-month fixed-term, full-time trainee contract equivalent to 40 hours per week. Your exact working hours will be agreed with your line manager.
Whilst in the six-month probationary period the notice period will be two weeks. Once this period is successfully completed the post holder will be confirmed in the post and the notice period will be four weeks.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
KNOWLEDGE
- Understanding of the role of marketing and PR work.
SKILLS
- Excellent communicator, both person-to-person and in writing.
- Confident user of computers and applications including MS Office.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience of using a range of social media services.
ATTRIBUTES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
- Enthusiasm for contemporary dance.
- Commitment to developing a career in arts and/or higher education marketing and communications.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Organised and motivated, able to work to deadlines.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
KNOWLEDGE
- Some knowledge of social media management for marketing.
SKILLS
- Familiarity with Spektrix ticketing and Dotmailer or some form of bulk email software would be advantageous.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with website content management systems and DTP/imaging software (e.g. Photoshop or Canva).

- Willingness to use own initiative.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
DAY-TO-DAY ACTIVITIES
- Maintain and monitor The Place’s social media presence, scheduling posts for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, YouTube, etc.
- Produce performance programme notes (for all performances in the theatre).
- Assist with on-sale processes, building web pages for events including the Theatre Programme and Classes & Course terms in liaison with the Classes & Courses Team.
- Update and amend The Place website as and when required.
- Maintain The Place’s print and programme archives.
- Keep leaflet and poster displays within the building well-stocked and up to date.
- Maintain The Place’s print stores via stock taking and recycling.
- Support the Press and PR Manager in filing and archiving press cuttings.
- Monitor the Communications inbox and social media channels to filter and distribute enquiries and questions.
- Update corporate stationery and building signage, as required.
- Upload events to listing sites and look for new opportunities for distribution.
PLANNED MARKETING CAMPAIGNS
- Support the marketing campaigns for The Place’s public programmes, including Classes and Courses, the Theatre Programme, and Creative Learning.
- Contribute to campaign planning, researching and identifying campaigns goals and marketing opportunities.
- Produce print and online marketing materials (collating information, copywriting, liaising with designers and printers, generating in-house promotional material, proof reading).
- Assist the Head of Marketing with the distribution of publicity material through email campaigns, social media, and print distribution.
- Coordinate reciprocal marketing activity and maintaining relationships with peer venues’ marketing contacts.
- Assist the Head of Marketing in the production and placement of advertising.
OTHER DUTIES
- Independently research, manage and deliver the weekly and monthly staff newsletters.
- Assist in the research, planning, development and implementation of marketing, PR, and communications activity.
- Attend and minute weekly team and marketing meetings of the Communications Team and other internal project teams as appropriate.
- Contribute to setting and monitoring termly Key Performance Indicators with the rest of the Communications Team.
- Any other duties reasonably required by members of the Communications Team.
