LECTURER IN DANCE: UNIT LEADER (BA CONTEMPORARY DANCE UNIT 9)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

LEARNING, TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT
- Deliver high-quality teaching and learning, as appropriate to unit plans and areas of expertise.
- Teach at least one of the following practices to any year group as required: Cunningham-based technique, Release-based technique, floorwork, or improvisation.
- Place the student at the centre, supporting learning through regular tutorials as required and as detailed in unit guides.
- Monitor student attendance and report concerns to the Year Group Coordinator.
- Support students' safe and effective participation in dance and fitness programmes in practical and lecture-based classes in consultation with the Physical Support and Mental Health and Well-Being teams.
- Oversee assessment and moderation for Unit 9 and marking for other units on the BA.
- Act as a Tutor for independent student research projects and undertake supervision of academic work.
- Attend course-related meetings, examination boards and wider team meetings as required.
- Maintain a professional level of subject expertise by being aware of relevant developments in community dance and participatory practice.
- Support and extend LCDS's existing links with those in professional practice as appropriate.

UNIT LEADERSHIP
- Act as Unit Leader, overseeing the delivery and implementation of Unit 9.
- Liaise with internal faculty, community commission artists, external project leaders, casual teaching staff and freelance artists to plan unit delivery.
- Manage relationships with community partners and organisations hosting or co-delivering community commission projects.
- Ensure the required learning resources are in place for the unit, managing budgets where relevant.
- Support unit assessments and ensure students are briefed and prepared appropriately.
- Provide, coordinate and edit feedback on student assessments in a timely fashion.
- Complete unit evaluation and reporting processes.
- Ensure effective liaison with and organisation of student representatives for the unit.
- Engage in subject, professional, and pedagogical innovation supporting curriculum development and planning within LCDS.
- Make an active contribution to Periodic Programme Review.

STUDENT SUPPORT AND WELLBEING
- Undertake appropriate training to keep skills up to date and current (Mental Health First Aid, Prevent, Safeguarding, etc.).
- Work with colleagues to support disabled students, implement any reasonable adjustments and learning agreements, seeking expert advice where required.
- Take responsibility for the Health and Safety of students and others, conducting risk assessments as needed.
- Ensure the maintenance of standards of student discipline as detailed within the Student Handbook and the Principles of Professional Practice (PoPP).

RECRUITMENT
- Undertake any duties required as part of the recruitment process including teaching/leading admissions activities, assessment of candidates, interviews, and outreach events.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE
- Engage in relevant independent research and scholarly activity to inform and enhance curriculum design and student experience.
- Undertake a programme of Continuing Professional Development for review at annual appraisal.
- Participate in external networks relevant to your specialism (e.g. community dance, Dance Higher Education).
- Maintain a good level of IT proficiency in order to produce online assessment reports, Google Classroom materials and other written materials.
- Foster collaborative exchanges with other departments across The Place, including Creative Learning, Public Programmes, Classes & Courses, and Artist Development.

- Attend and actively participate in LCDS and cross-organisation meetings and committees, and University of the Arts London committees as required.

- Maintain a level of professional conduct in relation to attendance, time management, sickness/absence reporting, and completing workload allocation documentation.
- Fulfil any other duties as may be reasonably required by the LCDS Directors.
