KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

ORGANISATION & ADMINISTRATION
- Maintain systems and processes that underpin research activity, ensuring effective coordination of schedules, correspondence, and key deadlines.
- Coordinate Research & Knowledge Exchange committees, preparing agendas, recording minutes, and monitoring action points.
- Coordinate activity across The Place’s research clusters, helping to cultivate a vibrant and connected research culture centred on practice research.
- Coordinate activity of artist researchers across The Place’s programmes, working closely with the Producer: Artist Development and Research to ensure that artist researchers have opportunities to contribute to the research culture at The Place, and that relevant opportunities are signposted to them.
- Support our growing PhD programme, liaising with UAL and partner institutions on marketing, open days, admissions, and communications with doctoral researchers.
- Understand and stay abreast of key policies and frameworks (including REF, HEIF, KEF, HE-BCI) and developments in the evolving research funding landscape.
- Ensure compliance with the requirements of external bodies, such as UKRI and Research England, maintaining accurate records and documentation.
- Represent The Place at external research meetings, networks and consultations with sector bodies, funders, policy organisations and partner institutions, deputising for the Director of Research, where appropriate.
- Act as the primary point of contact for research enquiries, particularly around funding, research degrees, and research events.

ACTIVITY MONITORING & REPORTING
- Support the operational preparations for the REF (Research Excellence Framework), coordinating the collection of research outputs and impact data, managing the research repository, and ensuring key deadlines are met and submissions comply with external requirements.
- Develop and assist with impact case studies, working with academic and public programmes staff to evidence the reach and significance of research.
- Monitor research projects, tracking budgets, timelines, and outcomes, while ensuring compliance with ethics processes and other institutional policies.
- Support the operational delivery of Knowledge Exchange reporting, including for the Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF), Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF), and HE-BCI return, coordinating the collection of outputs and impact data, liaising across the organisation to ensure activities are captured appropriately, and ensuring key deadlines are met and submissions comply with external requirements.

FINANCE & FUNDING
- Coordinate financial administration for research activity, processing expenditure and income, raising purchase orders, monitoring budgets and tracking PhD income.
- Support funding applications by preparing costings, coordinating submissions, and assisting with post-award reporting.
- Support the collection and coordination of data, evidence and impact information required for knowledge exchange funding.
- Coordinate internal research funding schemes, administering staff funding requests and project proposals, monitoring project delivery, and reporting outcomes.

EVENTS & COMMUNICATION
Coordinate research events and activities, including conferences, symposia, research cluster events, and events with partner organisations, managing logistics and communications in collaboration with internal teams.
Develop, maintain and enhance research and knowledge exchange web presence, working with the Communications team to ensure webpages are accurate, engaging, and showcase research activity, opportunities, outputs, and events.
Coordinate research communications in partnership with the Communications team, producing content for newsletters, webpages, social media and other digital channels to raise the profile of research, events, funding opportunities and achievements across The Place and externally.
