ABOUT
Our work across the entire ecology of dance is unrivalled, uniting research, education and training with the creative processes that lead to the conception, production and consumption of inspiring new work. With a dynamic programme spanning theatre, artist development, pioneering dance research, and a new focus on dance for health and wellbeing, The Place remains at the forefront of innovation in dance.
The Place is led by the Chief Executive and Accountable Officer, Clare Connor, who joined the organisation in August 2017. Clare is responsible for the leadership, strategic vision, and the academic, artistic, operational. and financial integrity of the organisation. There are two key areas: Education Programmes (including Research, London Contemporary Dance School, and the Centre for Advanced Training), and Public Programmes (including Theatre, Artist Development, Producing and Touring, and Classes & Courses). These areas are supported by Central Services Teams (including Communications, Development, Finance, and HR & Payroll).
Our Board of Governors helps us to shape the future of dance education, performance, and artistic development, and to support innovation, accessibility, and sustainability in the arts. Governors work closely with the Chief Executive and senior leadership team and are responsible for setting the overall strategy and for enabling The Place to fulfil its artistic and educational objectives in the context of a sustainable business model. Governors also act as important advocates and ambassadors for our work across the dance ecology.
The Board of Governors is led by Alan Bishop, who joined as Chair in August 2019. The Governors are responsible for setting the overall strategy and for enabling The Place to fulfil its artistic and educational objectives in the context of a sustainable business model. The Governors work closely with the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team and act as advocates and ambassadors on behalf of The Place.
As The Place is a company limited by guarantee (company no. 883094) and a registered (charity no. 250216), Governors are both charity trustees and company directors.
Key stakeholders and partners include Arts Council England, Office for Students, the Department for Education, alongside the Charity Commission. We also have a partnership with the University of the Arts London (UAL) in support of degree validation and PhD supervision.
